Austin is a unique jewel close enough for Dallasites to get away on a quick road trip. Austin style is very 'Texas meets hippie chic'. Very authentic, laid back, au naturel and unique. This year, the hubs and I celebrated my 31st in the city & absolutely LOVED it. Here's the style travel sheet.
What's cool about Austin is there is always something going on. So you'll never be bored. On the list was checking out graffiti wall art - we actually googled for a list of the best walls and found one listing several. Also the food is great almost everywhere you go. I swear locals there do not cook...why would they, everyone seems to own a restaurant or food truck. Seriously though life there appears so laid back. We were out and about during weekdays and so many people were out, I was like - wait...does anyone work around here!? LOL.
There's a good spot in between the city & river called Doug Sahm Hill Summit. You get the city and nature views sitting right atop the hill. We went to Elizabeth Street Cafe to pick up some spring rolls, tea and macarons. If you are in the area, you have to go there, great food. Traveling solo? You can picnic alone! Take a book & plug in your phone for a chill music playlist.
The trip was full of surprises, including birthday dinner over an amazingly gorgeous sunset at The Oasis Restaurant overlooking Lake Travis. We were doing so much that we were running late for his dinner surprise so I played it safe (I didn't know where we were going), wearing dark skinny denim, a leather sleeveless top, silver and black jewelry and a nude lip. I also did not do my hair! Jumped out of the shower and sleeked it back with Suavecito pom (it's the best, the hub brought it home from the barbershop and I've been using it since). Hair looked amazing and was so stress free.
Yes, you must. This was another surprise. I had never paddle boarded before but I'm always up for an adventure so I was so excited to try! On arrival, I was given a 2 minute orientation and was up on the board and gliding down the river. It was so incredibly relaxing, I said a prayer to God in gratitude for how amazing He has been to me, now reaching 31 years (WOW)!
On our way back, we took the scenic route and did some vintage antique shopping at one horse towns along the way. I love antiquing for jewelry - you always find rare pieces at dirt cheap cost. Just make sure you don't buy cheap metals (they'll irritate your skin) and clean/sanitize the jewelry well before wearing.
